WEEE Recycling

The Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) Directive was first published by the EU in January 2003.

The main aim of the legislation was to lower the amount of electrical goods being put into landfill. It would also encourage recycling and reuse. The legislation was approved in the UK in December 2006 and came into full force in July 2007.

Are You Affected by The New WEEE Regulations?

The WEEE regulations makes it so that retailers, manufacturers and business users are responsible for keeping electrical waste out of landfills or from being incinerated. This will prevent harmful gases from plastics and glues from damaging the environment and causing health problems.

There are 10 WEEE Categories as follows: -

  1. Large household appliances
  2. Small household appliances
  3. IT and telecommunications equipment
  4. Consumer equipment
  5. Lighting equipment
  6. Electrical and electronic tools (excepting large-scale stationary industrial tools)
  7. Toys, leisure and sports equipment
  8. Medical devices (excepting implanted and infected products)
  9. Monitoring and control instruments
  10. Automatic dispensers
